“Iowa Games” officials have pushed back the deadline for entering the basketball competition at the Iowa Games Summer Sports Festivals scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, June 22nd and 23rd. Jim Hallihan, executive director of the Iowa Games says deadline for entering basketball teams in the regionals in Cedar Falls, Des Moines and Storm Lake had been May 22nd, but it’s been extended to Wednesday, June 5th. Hallihan says they moved the deadline because entries were down compared to past experience. He says the number bounces up and down, but they were down enough that he says they wanted to try and get more teams in. He says the problem is that everyone waits until the deadline before sending in the registration. Hallihan says it’s harder to sign up a team than it is to enter as an individual because you need to get permission slips from all the participants’ parents. There are several divisions for male and female teams: 5th grade, 6th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade, 9th grade, junior varsity, varsity and 18 & over.
