Former Iowan arrested in California

June 19, 2002 By admin

A murder suspect’s been taken from southwest Iowa back to California to face charges. A rural Villisca woman who lived most of her life in California was arrested Tuesday on a California murder warrant. Page County Sheriff Mike Williams says 37-year-old Catherine Mary Ortigies was arrested without incident in her rural Page County home by a deputy and two detectives from San Bernardino, California. Sheriff Williams says Ortigies waived extradition and has already been taken back to California, where she’s being held on a million-dollar bond. They’re not telling details about the case, except that it’s a homicide. Authorities say the California authorities have known where Ortigies was, while they built their case against her, and the Page County sheriff’s office has worked with them on the investigation since last November.
