Champ gets life in Davenport rape

June 21, 2002 By admin

If Vinson Champ gets any more laughs, it will have to be from a prisonaudience. The 40-year-old traveling comedian was sentenced to life in prison yesterday in Scott County District Court. Champ had been convicted of simple assault, second-degree sexual assault and first-degree kidnapping. That was in connection with the rape of a St. Ambrose University student in a computer lab in February of 1997. The comedian also been convicted of sexual assaults in Nebraska and will serve prison sentences there before serving time in Iowa. His next stops, though, are Iowa City and California, where he faces various assault charges. Champ also is a suspect in cases in Illinois and Wisconsin.
