Accused cop killer goes on trial in Davenport

June 26, 2002 By admin

The trial of an eastern Iowa man accused in a cop killing opens today in Davenport. A police officer in a commandeered vehicle that ran over an Illinois state trooper is expected to testify today in the first-degree murder trial of 21-year-old Jonathan Posey of Davenport. Posey is accused in the dragging death of 50-year-old Master Sgt. Stanley Talbot a year ago in Rock Island. Talbot died after being dragged four blocks by a car fleeing a safety checkpoint. Prosecutors say Posey was the driver of the car. Defense attorneys expect to call Rock Island officer Shane Sharp to testify today. They say he is responsible for Talbot’s death because he hit and killed the trooper when he fell from the fleeing car.
