Former Nora Springs police chief resigned while under investigation

June 26, 2002 By admin

The former Nora Springs police chief was the subject of an investigation into viewing child pornography and inappropriate conduct. A search warrant was executed at the Mason City apartment of 40-year-old Doug Giles five days before his resignation, where police seized a laptop computer and a digital camera. The investigation also focused on Giles’ use of a Nora Springs Police Department computer. Floyd County Attorney Marilyn Dettmer says no criminal charges will be filed against Giles, since there is not enough probable cause found, and she says the case is closed. Giles resigned on June 19th, just over four months after moving from New Jersey to start the police chief position. Giles was a former peacekeeping officer for the United Nations in Kosovo.
