Gross seeks input on development ideas

June 26, 2002 By admin

Republican candidate for Governor Doug Gross will hold a series of meetings in small towns to gauge reaction to a development idea he’s pushing.Gross wants to enact a “community redevelopment plan” that would give businesses tax breaks for locating or expanding in depressed rural areas.Gross envisions tax breaks for fixing up old commercial buildings and houses, as well as tax breaks for investing in child care centers.A spokesman for Governor Vilsack’s campaign blasts the tax breaks, saying Gross’ main goal is to make businesses and millionaires richer, while doing little for the regular guy.
