Waterloo City Coumcilman under FBI investigation after remarks

June 26, 2002 By admin

The F-B-I is investigating a Waterloo City Councilman for a comment he allegedly made last week during a Housing Authority meeting. Waterloo Councilman Ron Welper says he doesn’t remember exactly what he said but said he didn’t intend it to be a threat. The Housing Authority meeting came one day after a city council meeting during which some residents spoke out about plans for proposed runoffs in the city elections. Another council member says she heard Welper say -quote- “Let’s just bomb their houses” in reference to their opponents. The mayor and police chief were contacted who apparently called the F-B-I. Welper says he was joking and has apologized to anyone who took offense. Welper is among four council members elected to a first term last November.
