UNI coach looks forward to new season

July 5, 2002 By admin

UNI men’s basketball coach Greg Mc-Dermott is spending his first summer back in Cedar Falls after taking over the reins of the program. Mc-Dermott, a native of Cascade, played for the Panthers from 1984-88. He coached the team to a surprising 14-15 record last season after they’d finishing 7-24 the year before. He credits the players with accepting his system and hard work by the coaches to make the program a success.Mc-Dermott says despite his team losing six seniors, he is looking forward to next year’s team and the chance for the young talent to develop. McDermott says U-N-I has a tough non-conference schedule next season and they will probably take a few lumps as they grow and improve.
