Emmetsburg completes wire to wire run in 2A

July 8, 2002 By admin

Emmetsburg completed a wire-to-wire run atop class 2A in the Radio Iowa/Coaches Association baseball poll. The E’Hawks opened at number one in the first poll of the season, and that’s where they finished up this week in the final poll. The rest of the top five in class 2A remained the same from last week, with Wilton, Cascade, Pekin and Westwood Sloan rounding out the top five. Emmetsburg opens tourney play tonight at home against Okoboji-Milford. Mason City Newman took over the top spot in class 1A in week three, and held onto that ranking through the final poll. The Knights take on Nora-Springs Rock Falls tonight at home in district play. Martensdale St. Mary’s moved up from third to second, flip-flopping with West Harrison, which fell to third. Lansing Kee remains in fourth and Coon Rapids-Bayard rounds out the top five in 1A. Cedar Rapids Xavier jumps over Oelwein to take over the top spot in class 3A. Oelwein falls to second, followed by Knoxville, Vinton Shellsburg and Dallas Center/Grimes. Council Bluffs Lewis Central stays on top in class 4A after shutting out second-ranked Marshalltown 10-0 Friday. Dubuque Wahlert, North Scott and Dubuque Hempstead round out the top five.
