The Whitebreast Recreation area near Knoxville on Lake Red Rock got nine-tenths of an inch of rain about eight this morning, and it’s still raining. Park ranger Tracy Spry says though there are fewer campers on a weekday than a holiday or weekend, they’re sticking it out. Most people have a camper even if they’ve also brought a tent, so they just get out of the weather. Park rangers watch the weather, but don’t necessarily advise campers on what might be coming. She says most campers will have a radio and get a good idea of what weather’s expected, though rangers may check on them if a tornado warning comes out. Spry says there’s no law prohibiting being out on the lake in a rainstorm, but common sense would keep any boater on land during a storm, because of the risk of high winds, rough water and lightning.
