Man sought in fatal hit-and-run in Des Moines

July 15, 2002 By admin

Law officers in the Des Moines metro area are on the lookout for a deadly hit-and-run driver. Des Moines police say a woman and her three-year-old daughter were walking across a capitol city street about 8:30 last night when they were hit by a gray Ford Taurus. 28-year-old Phuong Nguyen was knocked to the pavement but the girl, Teresa, was carried some 270 feet on the car’s hood before falling off. Teresa later died and her mother remains hospitalized in serious condition. Several witnesses saw the incident and say the Taurus had a cracked windshield and broken taillight. The driver was reportedly a black man in his 20s with a shaved or bald head. The search is still underway.
