Accident makes fair rethink atv event

July 18, 2002 By admin

Officials at an eastern Iowa county fair are considering an end to motocross racing events after a fatal crash. Jones County Fair officials are continuing an investigation into the death of a Monticello 18-year-old during an A-T-V racing event this week. Jared Gassman was taking part in the race of four-wheel-drive all-terrain vehicles when he lost control, crashed in the infield and was hit by several other A-T-Vs. It’s thought to be the first racing fatality at the fair. Fair officials plan to pay tribute to Gassman sometime during the fair.
