Charges increased against Des Moines man in hit-and-run

July 18, 2002 By admin

Police have upgraded the charges against a Des Moines man allegedly involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident Sunday. Donte Ivy, is accused of hitting a Des Moines woman and her three-year-old daughter with his car as they crossed a busy street. A Des Moines police spokesman says after the impact, Ivy carried the three-year-old girl on the roof of his car for about 300 feet before she fell to the pavement — and then Ivy kept going. The girl later died. Ivy was originally charged with two counts of failure to render aid and assistance at the scene of an accident. One of those charges has been upgraded to vehicular homicide. Ivy turned himself in last night.
