Another canidate enters U-S Senate race

July 19, 2002 By admin

A third party candidate from northwest Iowa has entered the U-S Senate race, and the candidate’s name may cause a little confusion.Tim Harthan of Emmetsburg is running on the Iowa Green Party ticket against democrat incumbent Senator Tom Harkin and republican Congressman Greg Ganske. Harthan is disabled and is a member of the Emmetsburg City Council. His platform includes: campaign finance reform, community-based economics, locally generated fuel sources and instant run-off voting, which he explains. You’d list a preference, one, two, and three, to avoid the debacle like in the last presidential race. Harthen doesn’t think he’ll beat Harkin or Ganske, but hopes to get at least four-percent of the vote. The Iowa Green Party was recognized last February. Harthan leaves for the Green Party National Convention in Philadelphia today and plans to start his Iowa campaign next week.
