Large Lottery prize still unclaimed as deadline looms

July 20, 2002 By admin

A lottery ticket worth thousands of dollars is about to become just another scrap of paper. The $100,000 ticket from the Powerball drawing on July 21, 2001 was sold in Bettendorf. Iowa Lottery spokeswoman Mary Neubauer says prizes are good for 365 days after a drawing, and the ticket will expire Monday at four p-m. If the ticket isn’t turned in, the money is back up for grabs as it’s returned to the general prize pool for another drawing. Neubauer says it’s rare for the big bucks to remain unclaimed. Over one million dollars in prizes did go unclaimed in the 2002 fiscal year that ended June 30th.
