Former Drake kicker looks to become a Cowboy

July 22, 2002 By admin

Billy Cundiff, a native of Harlan who was Drake University’s kicker, will report to the Dallas Cowboys’ training camp on Wednesday. Cundiff was home in Harlan last week after spending two months in Dallas, working out, and Cundiff says he’s better than he was two months ago. The coaches charted 15 field goals every day. Cundiff says on a good day, he’d hit 14 of 15, but his average was about 12 or 13 of 15. Cundiff is battling Tim Seder for the job. Seder was kicker last year, hitting 11 of 17 field goals. But Seder was just three for seven on kicks beyond 40 yards. Cundiff is ready to prove himself in training camp, and he’ll have plenty of chances to prove himself in the pre-season, too. Cundiff will kick in three pre-season games as well as a team scrimmage with the Houston Texans. Cundiff was signed as a free agent after the spring draft.
