Sioux City banks asks customers to take off hats and glasses

July 23, 2002 By admin

It’s a far cry from those old “no shirt, no shoes, no service” signs. Sioux City banks and financial institutions are asking customers to remove their hats and sunglasses before entering. The step was taken after a man robbed two Sioux City-area banks two weeks ago. Sioux City detective Mike Manthorne says the man was wearing a cap and sunglasses, perhaps to keep surveillance cameras from getting a good shot of him. Now, the Sioux City police department’s handing out signs for bank lobbies.Manthorne says it’s not meant to inconvenience anyone; it’s being done to ensure surveillance video gets a clear shot of everyone who enters a bank.Banks and other financial institutions in Ames are enforcing a similar “take off your hat and sunglasses” edict after a recent robbery there was committed by a person obscured by a cap in surveillance video.
