Marshalltown gets third straight shot at 4A title

Marshalltown will make their third straight attempt to win the class 4A title today. The Bobcats downed Des Moines Roosevelt 4-3 in the 4A semifinal on their home field in Marshalltown after breaking a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning. Bobcat coach Steve Hanson says this is the hardest working team he’s had.Bobcat slugger Jeff Clement did not get a home run, but had a double in three plate appearances. Marshalltown has finished as the runner-up each of the last two years. Cedar Rapids Kennedy will try to deny Marshalltown that championship today after downing Ottumwa 13-1. Kennedy coach Bret Hoyer says they’re hitting the ball well.Kennedy beat Marshalltown by 10 runs in their only other meeting this season. Hoyer says that game doesn’t matter now that a championship is on the line.The game is at 3:30 p-m today.
