Newman back in 1A title game

Top-ranked Mason City Newman held off a rally by Storm Lake-St. Mary’s to advance to the 1A championship game with a 10-7 victory. Newman jumped out to a a 9-0 lead, but St. Mary’s came back with two runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to make it close. Newman coach Tony Adams says it’s good to move on.Newman will meet North Tama of Traer, which downed Lansing Kee 10-4 to advance to today’s 1 pm championship game in Carroll. Newman won the title in 1998, while North Tama finished second in 1990.
