Davenport police look for robbery suspect

Law officers in eastern Iowa are searching for a second man wanted inconnection with an armed robbery. Deputies say three people were stopped on the shoulder of a road in rural Scott County about 11 p.m. Friday. Two men, later identified as Matthew J. McCoy of Bettendorf and 27-year-old Gordon Haynes Jr. of Davenport, approached the three. They say the two displayed a handgun and took the trio’s wallets. The victims, however, notified the sheriff’s office by cell phone and followed the robbers as they tried to escape. An Eldridge officer spotted the suspect vehicle and pursued it until it went into a ditch. The driver, identified by police as McCoy, was captured at the scene. Haynesfled into an adjacent cornfield and is still at large.
