A Storm Lake man was hurt when a high-speed chase ended in a two-vehicle crash near the northwest Iowa town of Merrill. Iowa State Patrol officer Jay Smith says he tried to stop a car that he clocked at 80-miles-an-hour on a Woodbury County road on Wednesday afternoon. Trooper Smith says the suspect, 26-year-old Chad Thompson, continued to speed into another county.Smith says Thompson lost control when he encountered another vehicle.Smith says the car flipped on its top and hit the ditch. The pickup he hit is owned by the state and is used for undercover operations. There was no one in the truck when Thompson collided with it. Smith says Thompson faces a variety of charges.Thompson was not seriously hurt but was held overnight at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
