Creighton University economist Ernie Goss says his latest monthly survey of business conditions has found Iowa looking stronger. He says new orders and production are up, though managers are holding off on hiring more workers. Goss says businesses are waiting to see if profits will be good and whether fallout from Wall Street will impact their economic outlook. Goss thinks the economy’s definitely rebounding in Iowa but not as strongly as you might expect, and figures from the U-S Bureau of Economic Analysis show the recession was worse than we’d thought. Goss says we’re still waiting for businesses to resume hiring and investing, and that still isn’t happening. One positive factor Goss is seeing is that interest rates are so low, businesses are resuming construction projects they’d put on hold.
