Davenport doctor’s license pulled

August 9, 2002 By admin

A Davenport doctor is being denied permission to practice in Iowa. The license of 64-year-old Stephen Weiss, a urologist, has been suspendedimmediately by the Iowa Board of Medical Examiners. The doctor will appeal at a September hearing. Following an investigation, the board said Weiss had engaged in “unprofessional or unethical conduct.” He received a 240-day suspended jail sentence and was fined $500 after pleading guilty in June to stalking and threatening a former girlfriend. Weiss has been in trouble before. He lost his hospital privileges in 1991 for allegedly verbally abusing and threatening co-workers. His license was placed on probation for two years in 1992 over concerns his mental condition might be affecting his work.
