August 15, 2002 By admin

The Iowa Federation of Labor’s holding its annual convention in Waterloo, hearing from its national president and top two Democrat politicians in Iowa. Senator Tom Harkin addressed the delegates this morning, and assailed his Republican opponent, Greg Ganske, for supporting the move to let workers invest a portion of their own Social Security taxes in stocks or other securities. Harkin returned to a theme he first uttered at the Iowa Democratic state convention in June, criticizing Ganske for voting againstan increase in the minimum wage as well as voting to end the Department of Education and the school lunch program. Harkin said no matter how good a plastic surgeon Ganske is, he’ll never be able to put a “pretty face on that miserable record.” Governor Tom Vilsack addresses the group this afternoon.
