The Small Business Administration’s hailing a presidential executive order that calls on government agencies to consider what effect any new rules have on small businesses. The S-B-A’s Tom Sullivan said there’s been a law on the books for 25 years urging bureaucrats to keep that in mind. He says the law’s worked, providing cost savings by convincing agencies to do their business a little differently. Sullivan gives an example of an agencyconsidering rules that could cause un-intended headaches for a small business, like an Iowa home builder. When you build a new home all the paving for sidewalks and driveways raises concerns about storm runoff putting oil into local streams, but proposed E-P-A rules might have added35-hundred dollars to the cost of every new home. Small Business Administration leaders say the executive order signed last week will have agencies write policies on how they’ll measure the impact of their rulemaking on small businesses.
