1,100 apply for 100 airport-screener jobs in CR

August 21, 2002 By admin

A Cedar Rapids contractor has quit taking applications for one-hundred new airport screener jobs after receiving 1,100 of them. Once they’re hired and trained, the passenger and baggage screeners will work at airports in the Quad-Cities, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque and Burlington. Federal screeners must be hired and trained on the job to check passengers at the nation’s commercial airports by November 18. All baggage must be checked for trace explosives starting Dec. 31. Those dates are set by Congress. Appicants who are military veterans or have law enforcement experience will get top priority in the hiring process. New screeners will receive 40 hours of initial training and 60 hours of on-the-job training.
