John Norris, the democrat running in the Fourth Congressional District, says the Republican incumbent, Tom Latham, is a shill for the pharmaceutical industry. Latham’s getting an award from the “60-Plus” group, a group Norris says is bankrolled by the major drug companies. He says the reality is the bill would do very little to help seniors. The plan Latham supports would provide a subsidy to the elderly, who would then go out and buy insurance to cover their prescription drug costs. Norris says that’s no guarantee the insurance will pay all the bills, or even that it’d be available, which makes the plan a “sham” according to Norris.Latham campaign spokesman Mike Day is firing back.Day says Norris is being “hypocritical” because Norris is benefiting from ads sponsored by the Sierra Club, a group Day calls “ultra-liberal” and out of touch with Iowa.
