Scedule leaves ISU KIng of the Big 12 for at least a month

September 2, 2002 By admin

Iowa State’s victory over Kansas puts the Cyclones atop the Big 12 northern division standings ’til October 5th, when Big 12 head-to-head competition resumes. Kansas agreed to move the game up to the beginning of the season to help Iowa State avoid a bye-week after their opening game against Florida State. Iowa State coach Dan McCarney says he’s proud to be 1-0 against “well-coached” football team. He says his team bounced back after a disappointing loss to F-S-U.McCarney says the Cyclones have been on a roll since the second quarter of the Florida State game, and it’s his challenge to keep the team focused.Since Iowa State was down to Florida State 24-to-zero, the Cyclones have gone on a 76-to-17 scoring spree. Saturday’s 45-to-3 win over Kansas this past Saturday gave McCarney an opportunity to get some rookies playing time, which McCarney says will help on down the road.
