Drake opens the home season Saturday against Truman State. The Bulldogs opened with a 64-7 loss at Western Illinois last week and several players have missed practice time due to injury and coach Rob Ash says they will need to be healthy to have a chance. He says Truman State is an outstanding division two program in a difficult conference, and he says they play hard-nosed football with skilled players.Ash says the Bulldogs need to eliminate mistakes if they hope to win. He says mistakes are especially tough against a quality opponent, and they found that out all to well against Western Illinois.Over the years Drake has been outstanding at home and Ash says they need that advantage against Truman. They’re 42-7-1 in the last ten years in Drake Stadium and Ash says they hope to have the same home magic Saturday.Truman State won last year’s game 40-29.
