Iowa-ISU both win heading into meeting Saturday

The countdown to Saturday’s 50th meeting between Iowa State and Iowa is underway after both teams posted victories over the weekend. The Hawkeyes held off Miami of Ohio 29-24 to move to 2-0 in the season. Quarterback Brad Banks had a big day. He completed 18 of 27 passes for 256 yards and a touchdown as Iowa totaled 444 yards of offense.Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says the flow of the game dictated how much they threw the ball. Ferentz said it was a hard fought victory.Junior tackle Robert Gallery is part of a veteran offensive line that has been impressive early on. He says the line meshed together well on the football field.Iowa State improved to 2-1 with a 58-6 cruise past out manned Tennessee Tech. Cyclone coach Dan McCarney was happy with the effort. He says they took care of business and got the big plays the coaching staff wanted. McCarney says now it’s time to focus on the Hawkeyes. He says they need to step up their preparation, focus and intensity.Quarterback Seneca Wallace says they can now look ahead. He says it’s a big game and they’ll be ready for it.Wallace says all the hype surrounding the game makes it more enjoyable. He says the emotion of the game makes it more exciting and meaningful to Iowans.
