Davenport man sentenced to prison in fraud case

September 19, 2002 By admin

It’ll be prison time for the eastern Iowa man accused of ripping off the largest employer in the Quad Cities. Guilty on 17 counts. That’s the verdict last night from a federal jury in Rock Island, Illinois. Alan Stalcup of Davenport and his company, Gear Specialists, had faced more than 20 counts of fraud. The government claimed Stalcup and his firm overcharged the Rock Island Arsenal 25-thousand dollars to pay for repairs that were never made to 12 trucks. Stalcup’s defense maintained the work was done and approved. Sentencing is January third.
