UNI Coach back to two QB’s

September 24, 2002 By admin

U-N-I football coach Mark Farley doesn’t know who he’ll start as quarterback on Saturday. He’ll make a decision late this afternoon and announce it to the team at practice. Both Griff Jurgens and Tom Petrie (pee’-tree) saw action in Saturday’s 31 to 24 win over Stephen F. Austin. Jurgens was tapped as the starter going into the season, but he injured his knee in the Panther’s opener. Jurgens did start this past Saturday and quarterbacked the team to its first 17 points. But when Northern Iowa was behind late in the game, it was Petrie who led the drive that put U-N-I ahead for good. Farley says it’s great to have two capable quarterbacks. U-N-I travels to California this coming Saturday to play at Cal Poly, then the Panther’s conference opener is October 5th at home against Western Kentucky.
