Women in Ames are warned to be on-guard if they hit the bars near downtown. Ames police are issuing an advisory to female patrons of taverns not to leave their drinks unattended nor to accept drinks from strangers. Investigators suspect G-H-B, the so-called date rape drug, was used in three recent sexual assaults on women who’d been in bars near Iowa State University. Each woman said she’d had a few drinks, then woke up somewhere else — forgetting much of the night. Police say they usually get one or two such cases a year in Ames but have already had three during October. Law officers seized a large quantity of G-H-B in an sting near Iowa State last month.
