Black Hawk County health officials are keeping watch on a case of whooping cough that was discovered at the Malcolm Price Lab School in Cedar Falls last week. County health director Tom O’Rourke says so far, just –one– student case has been confirmed but many students are staying home this week as a precaution.O’Rourke estimates more than 30 other students are being tested, and he says their best hope is that they’ve prevented the spread from the one student to others. He says they’re trying to head off a potential outbreak by working with the school to identify the students in closes contact with the infected student. He says students who’ve had the test may be asked to stay out of school a few days to keep from spreading the disease. The student was diagnosed with whooping cough last Monday.
