Iowa outscored Northern Iowa 18-4 to close the game as the Hawkeyes rallied for a 63-54 win in college basketball action in Iowa City. Iowa coach Steve Alford says despite struggling on offense his team found a way to win. He says they missed a lot of wide open looks, but he says he liked the 18-4 run at the end of the game.Alford says it was a hard fought in-state game that he knew would be a tough game with their best shot. U-N-I coach Greg McDermott says the Panthers played well enough to give themselves a chance but could not make enough shots down the stretch to put the game away. He says they executed the defensive game plan very well, but shot only 33 percent. He says with a young team all they can ask is to go on the road and stay close and have a chance to win. McDermott says the shots didn’t fall, but another day they will.Iowa improves to 6-1. U-N-I falls to 2-3.
