Christmas Tree not cause of house fire

December 24, 2002 By admin

One day before Christmas, fire broke out about 4:30 this morning and gutted a home in Ames. Fire Captain Scott Siberski says all residents got out with no injuries, but they were only able to take along a few possessions. First reports indicated the housefire started near a Christmas tree, but Captain Siberski says that likely was NOT the case. The cause of the blaze in Ames is under investigation. Another fire yesterday demolished an apartment building in Urbandale that had 36 units — 31 of them were occupied. No one was hurt but most residents lost everything.
