Suspect in deputies death comes forward

January 7, 2003 By admin

An Ottumwa man who authorities say was the subject of a high-speed chase this past weekend turned himself in last night. Police sought 20-year-old Justin Jacob of Ottumwa in connection with the death of Davis County Deputy Sheriff Dennis McElderry. Jacob turned himself in around 8:30 last night and is charged in Davis County with Homicide or Serious Injury by Vehicle. McElderry was killed after being hit by a Wapello County reserve deputy while McElderry was moving “stop sticks” from the roadway.
