The Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce has agreed to take over the annual event which remembers the rock-and-roll legends who died in a 1959 plane crash in north-central Iowa. Surf Ballroom manager Kevin Schoneman (show-nuh-man) had announced last week that Legend Fest, formerly known as the Winter Dance Party, would be moved to the summer to reduce the costs which bands were charging for making a trip to Iowa during the winter time…but several city leaders, retailers, and hotel managers had frowned on the idea since it would mean an end to the financial shot-in-the-arm every January and February for the north-central Iowa economy. Chamber officials will make a formal announcement in the future about the agreement, saying they are still working out the final details of taking over the event.
