Pair of Iowans wrapping up their carreers with Kansas

February 25, 2003 By admin

A pair of Iowa natives will play their final game at Allen Fieldhouse for Kansas on Saturday when the Jayhawks host Oklahoma State. Sioux City native Kirk Hinrich and Nick Collison of Iowa Falls helped lead Kansas to last year’s Final Four and Collison says both players explored the possibility of leaving school after their junior campaigns. He says there’s an advisory committee that tells coaches where a player might go. Collison says both were projected to go in the middle rounds, but he says they both wanted to come back and make another run at an NCAA Championship. Collison says both players are happy with their decision. He says in the end they both would rather have been in Kansas than risk slipping down in the NBA draft. Kansas is tied with Oklahoma for the Big-12 lead and hosts Texas [email protected] Wednesday night.
