Five die in three accidents in Eastern Iowa

March 4, 2003 By admin

The roads were slick but the State Patrol isn’t saying for sure that was a contributing factor in all three accidents that left five people dead in northeast Iowa Monday. The first accident happened in Chickasaw County near Ionia. A car driven by Vicki Slick of Ionia missed a curve and struck a tree. She died at the New Hampton hospital. The second accident happened near the Highway 20 and Highway 218 interchange in Waterloo in Black Hawk County. Police found a car that had left the road with two people in it. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other later died at the hospital. Their names haven’t been released. The third accident happened Monday evening in Waucoma. A car driven by 22-year-old Joseph Farrell of Waucoma failed to make a curve and went into the ditch where it struck a tree. Farrell was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Union hospital. A passenger, 25-year-old Ryan Brockway of Waucoma was taken to the West Union hospital, where he later died.
