Spring Break creates travel backlogs

March 14, 2003 By admin

For a change of pace, Iowa’s airports are clogged with trip-takers and travelers are advised to expect delays and plan ahead. Many Iowa schools are having Spring Break, and it’s causing passenger pileups as winter-weary vacationers flee to warmer regions. Michael Audino, spokesman for the Des Moines International Airport, says the terminal is buzzing. Forget fears about war or the economy, Audino says airlines are predicting record passenger loads through next weekend. Audino says fliers need to get to the terminal well before flight time. He says to arrive at least two hours before the scheduled departure time to allow time for parking, check-in and security precautions. Three airlines serving Des Moines now have computer kiosks that allow passengers to check in without standing in line.
