Gateway computer is cutting 19-hundred jobs nationwide, with nearly 500 of the cuts coming in the Sioux City area from workers at Gateway’s computer factory in North Sioux City, South Dakota. Gateway founder Ted Waite says the cuts are part of the plan to trim overhead and improve the company’s profits. Waite says they company will take other actions to try and improve its sales.He says they try to differentiate themselves in the marketplace by introducing a lot of products and some new marketing efforts in their stores and sales. The jobs in North Sioux City include production workers, engineers and information technology workers.
