With the Elizabeth Smart abduction case fresh in everyone’s minds, two attempted kidnappings are under investigation in western Iowa. Onawa police chief Gary Addy says both incidents happened late Monday afternoon and involved juvenile girls. He says occupants of a mid-sized, newer-style blue car tried -unsuccessfully- to lure one girl into the vehicle about 5 PM and a second girl at 5:10 within two blocks of the first reported incident. Neither girl was hurt though one says she saw two pistols in the back seat of the car, which was occupied by a thin man and a heavy-set woman. Chief Addy says he has a warning for area residents: parents need to be alert and protect their children. Kids should remember not to talk to strangers and if something out of the ordinary happens, local law enforcement should be called.
