Gas prices drop in Independence in competition

While many Iowa gas stations lowered prices a few pennies a gallon since war began in Iraq, there’s no place in the state where it’s fallen as much as 50 cents — except one town in northeast Iowa. Gas prices in Independence are averaging a dollar-29 a gallon after a convenience store opened on Friday with that very low price, tipping off a price war between several stations.
