Unranked in the preseason, the Simpson softball team has vaulted into the second spot in the latest division-three softball poll. The Storm have already beaten three teams ranked in the top 15 and coach Henry Christowski admits their start has been a bit of a surprise. He says they had some indication in fall workouts that they might have a surprise for those who discounted them. He says he never expected to be 19-1 though. Christowski says the ranking is an honor, but comes with a price. He says he prefers not to start so high, because he likes to encourage his kids to work to move higher. He says it also puts a target on their back. The road gets no easier as Simpson opens the Iowa Conference race at Wartburg this afternoon. Christowski says the key to winning the league title will be consistency.
