Man found dead, child badly hurt in Davenport

April 14, 2003 By admin

Davenport police are looking into separate weekend incidents that left a man dead and a child badly hurt. Police say a burning body was discovered early Sunday morning behind a north Davenport book store. Evidence at the scene indicates the man was homeless and police are investigating the death. An autopsy is scheduled. Identification in the man’s wallet says he’s a 42-year-old from Wisconsin, but his name hasn’t been released. Meanwhile, Sunday afternoon in west Davenport, a three-year-old girl who’d been staying with relatives apparently wandered into a neighbor’s yard, where she was mauled by a pit bull. The animal reportedly bit Jessica Myers in the face and she sustained what police say are “serious facial injuries.” The dog has been impounded and an investigation is underway.
