Drake football coach Rob Ash is hoping the Bulldogs bounce back from a disappointing 2002 season and the battle at quarterback this spring may go along way toward determining their fate next season. Two candidates are vying to replace Ira Vandever who ended his career with 15 school records. Ash says anytime you lose a four year starter, it’s like starting all over again. Ash says Bill Costanzo of Chicago and Conner Jostes of Iowa City two freshmen vying for the job, have two offer different styles. Costanzo is more of a drop back passer, while Jostes is more mobile and runs more.Ash says he won’t name a starter based on spring drills, as he will continue the competition into fall practice. Drake was 5-6 last season.
