Tom Davis to become Drake coach

April 22, 2003 By admin

The University of Iowa’s all-time winningest basketball coach will attempt to turn around the program at Drake. Dr. Tom Davis will be introduced as the Bulldogs’ new head coach at a news conference this afternoon. Davis recorded 269 victories for the Hawkeyes, including three trips to the sweet 16, but Davis has been out of coaching since his contract was not renewed following the 1998-99 campaign. Davis replaces Kurt Kanaskie, who resigned two weeks ago after seven years at the helm. Davis inherits a program that has not had a winning season since 1987. Davis has spent 28 years as a head coach, posting a record of 543 and 290 with stops at Lafayette, Boston College, and Stanford.
