Fallen Iowan honored in Davenport

May 19, 2003 By admin

The first Iowan to die in Operation Iraqi Freedom was honored over the weekend. Sergeant Bradley Korthaus of Davenport and another Marine from Illinois drown while trying to cross a canal in Iraq in late March, in what was later ruled a wartime accident. Hundreds of people gathered at a Davenport Little League baseball diamond on Saturday to witness it being renamed in memory of Korthaus. The field at Ridgeview Park is now Korthaus Field and a banner hangs from the backstop. Today would have been Korthaus’ 29th birthday.
