June 9, 2003 By admin

A state of the art meat processing plant that specializes in turkey is up and running in Mount Pleasant. The plant is owned by the Iowa Turkey Grower’s Co-op who also operate West Liberty Foods and Sigourney foods. The plant now employs 108 people and will soon have 250 employees. Paul Hill is chairman of the board of the co-op and and feels the key to the future is convenience. He says the specialty luncheon meats produced at the plant take advantage of that desire for convenience. But, Hill says they cannot sacrifice quality for convenience. He says the consumers want a good tasting meat and that’s what they’ll give them at this plant.
